Well Chris, which tricks exactly have you been
trying to recreate? And what do you think it is that is
missing or not shown that you need to know in order to
make them a success?
A word of warning
(doubtlessly it will go unheeded, but what the hell!) you will
gain precious little insight into what Derren does on
the TV show from Pure Effect, Absolute Magic, or The
Devil's Picturebook. Admittedly you will get some
insight, but probably not the sort you're looking for. For
the record, owning all three, I can wholeheartedly
recommend them as a) interesting meditations on the notions
of performance and the magician's character and b) a
source of some top-notch card routines and techniques
(particularly TDPB, which even without the explanations would
still be a pretty amusing TV special in its own right).
Other than that, Absolute Magic has turned me on
to the ineffable joy of stealing watches!! None of
this 'Rolex Robber' malarkey for me anymore!!!
By the way, it sounds very much as if by seeking to
copy Derren's techniques and replicate the effects he
creates that you are trying to 'model' him. I can't
recall who it was precisely, but I seem to recall
someone poo-pooing the notion of NLP and modelling a few
posts back......;)
Best
Daniel
