Yup that certainly looked like hypnotic induction
which you aren't supposed to see on
TV.

Sounds plausible but I guess you'd have to try it out. I
read (probably on this board) that someone did this in
a calibration exercise in a NLP seminar i.e. one
person had to think of a small object and then a large
object while the other observed. Then the observer had
to correctly identify 10 times in a row what size
object the person was thinking about. Then it went on to
shiny/dull, colour, etc tests.
In the Radio 1
interview one of the first things DB picked up on was that
the object was shiny, then I think he picked up on
its size.
So you'll have to get some patient
soul (or long suffering partner) to try it out with
you.
