Ireland, John (Nicholson) (b Bowdon, 13 August, 1879 - d Rock Mill, 12 June, 1962)
Ireland initially studied piano at the Royal College of Music and then he started to study composition under Stanford from 1897 until 1901. Between 1904 and 1926 he was organist and choirmaster at St Luke's Chelsea, and in 1923 he also returned to the RCM to teach which he did until 1939.
