Farrant, Richard (b c1525-1530 - d London, 30 November, 1580)
Farrant was a singer in the Chapel Royal from c1550; in 1564 he became Master of the Choristers of St George's Chapel, Windsor, and in 1569 of the Chapel Royal. He wrote and staged plays (from which two stage songs survive), and he was an early exponent of the verse anthem.

It should be mentioned that some liturgical pieces attributed to 'Farrant', may be his, or they may be by one of the John Farrants, father and son, who were organists at Salisbury in the late sixteenth century.
