History of Birmingham

Mediaeval Birmingham |
B+ |
Planning and organisation of material: Generally excellent but you could have brought the archaeological evidence into play earlier. What of Hessum's Ditch etc.?
Use of sources: Thorough and intelligent with correct use of referencing.
Analysis: Clearly developed analysis of the conflicting views - it would have been interesting what your own conclusions were.
Presentation: Excellent.
Overall comments: A very good essay showing qualities which will serve you well at level 2 provided you work developing a stronger personal voice.

Report on eighteenth century maps as an historical source |
B+ |
Planning and organisation of material: An otherwise excellent essay is spoiled by failing to identify Birmingham maps and the key issues surounding them from the start.
Use of sources: Good range, intelligently used.
Analysis: You make some very cogent points throughout, both drawn from the secondary sources and using your own personal interpretation.
Presentation: Exellent.
Overall comments: A certain 'A' (or even A+) had it not been for the non-specific opening paragraphs.
